TRAFFIC OFFENCES IN KENYA AND FINES

In Kenya, traffic offenses are governed by the Traffic Act (Cap 403) and enforced by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). 4. PSV conductor’s failure to keep seat belts in a clean, dry, and generally wearable condition (Rule 22A(5) and (6)) – Kshs 500.

5. Failure of a vehicle to carry warning signs (lifesavers) (Rule 25) – Kshs 2,000.

6. Failure to fit the prescribed speed governor in PSV and Commercial Vehicles (Rule 41A) – Kshs 10,000.

7. Driving or operating a PSV with tinted windows or windscreen (Rule 54A) – Kshs 2,000.

11. A passenger alighting or boarding any omnibus or matatu at an unauthorized place (Rule 68(1)(x) and 72) – Kshs 1,000.

12. Travelling with part of the body outside a moving vehicle (Rule 80) – Kshs 1,000.

13. Failure of the conductor to refund the fare for the incomplete portion of the journey for which full fare has been paid (Section 101(2)) – Kshs 5,000.

14. Touting (Section 103(1) and (2)) – Kshs 3,000.

15. Failure of a PSV driver or conductor to wear the special badge and uniform (Section 103A(1) and (7)) – Kshs 2,000.

31. Causing obstruction by allowing a vehicle to remain in any position on the road (Section 53(1) and 67) – Kshs 10,000.

Access the eCitizen Portal:

Log in to Your Account:

  • Log in with your eCitizen credentials (ID number, email address, or mobile number, and password).
  • If you don’t have an account, register by following the sign-up process.

Navigate to NTSA Services:

  • Once logged in, find and click on the “NTSA” tab or icon among the listed services.

Select “Vehicle Inspection”:

  • After accessing the NTSA section, look for the “Vehicle Inspection” option.

Choose the Vehicle:

  • Select the vehicle you want to book for inspection from your registered vehicles.

Select an Inspection Center:

  • Choose the inspection center where you would like the inspection to be done.
  • Pick a convenient date and time from the available slots.

Make Payment:

  • Proceed to the payment section to pay the inspection fee.
  • Payment can typically be made via M-Pesa, bank transfer, or other available methods on the eCitizen platform.

Receive Confirmation:

  • After payment, you will receive a confirmation of your booking. This might be in the form of a downloadable receipt or an email notification.

Present Your Vehicle for Inspection:
