NHIF payment 2024

The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) changed its paybill to comply with the new Government regulations.

Members of NHIF and employers should make their NHIF payments as per the following guidelines:

NHIF receives payment notifications immediately. To access NHIF services, visit https://selfcare-ecitizen.nhif.or.ke/ or https://nhif.or.ke or use the NHIF Mobile App from App Store or Play Store.

How To Check NHIF Status

To make monthly contributions through MPESA, follow these steps:

1. Go to the M-PESA Menu and click on “Lipa Na M-PESA,” then select “PayBill.”

2. Enter 222222 as the PayBill Number.

3. For the account number, enter “NHIFM” followed by a hyphen (-) and your ID number without spaces. For example, NHIFM-IDNumber.

4. Enter KES 500 for the month(s) you want to pay for, or KES 6,000 if you want to pay for the whole year. Note that the system can only accept a maximum of KES 6,000 at a time for bulk payments.

5. Enter your Safaricom PIN Number.

6. You will receive a confirmation message from MPESA indicating that you have successfully made the contribution. This message serves as proof of payment.

Please note that you should use your National Identification Number in the format specified above (NHIFM-IDNumber) as your Account Number and not your NHIF Member Number. Also, remember that you must pay your premiums up to the current month for your coverage to remain active. Finally, be aware that Safaricom’s Terms and Conditions apply.

If your card has been inactive for more than 12 months, all penalties will be waived. You can then resume monthly contributions, and your card will become active again after 60 days.

If you have failed to make payments for over 12 months, you can reactivate your card by paying KES 1,500.

The NHIF imposes penalties on members of the medical scheme who make late payments. This measure is in place to encourage clients to honour their monthly commitments, which is necessary for the smooth running of the fund. It ensures that every beneficiary receives their due benefits according to the premiums paid.

As a registered self-employed member, you are required to make a monthly contribution of KES 500 to your account. To avoid penalties, please make sure to pay on or before the 9th of the following month. The system only accepts a maximum of KES 6,000 if you are paying annually.

If you fail to pay by the 9th, you will be charged a penalty of 10% (KES 50) of your voluntary monthly contribution. Please note that outstanding arrears and/or penalties must be paid before you can access services.

If you accidentally input the wrong information while making a payment, such as entering your NHIF Member Number as your M-PESA Account Number instead of your National Identification Number, or using a wrong prefix, don’t worry. You can go any NHIF office Accounts Department with a copy of your National Identification Card and the M-PESA message from Safaricom that shows the incorrect transaction. Our team will provide you with the necessary assistance to rectify the mistake.
